Chocolatey Install On Windows 10
So I got a new work laptop - it's a fresh dell latitude - and windows 10 went through a very nice set up phase. I proceeded to install all the things.
- git (for windows)
- VSCode
- chocolatey
- keepass
- dropbox
- nodejs (latest, 8.4.0)
ChocolateyGUI is a wrapper around Chocolatey. And Chocolatey is a package manager for Windows. ChocolateyGUI calls into Chocolatey to install packages on your machine. Chocolatey doesn't know anything about applications that are installed in the traditional manner, i.e. Double clicking an EXE or an MSI. OneGet is the tool, Chocolatey is mainly a repository, though install tools are available there. If OneGet is included in Windows 10 though, it’s only going to open the doors to more manageable package distribution. On an administrator side, not the end user. Something that’s been missing from Windows’ core features for a long time.
So I pop open Git Bash as an administrator and run:
Then I try, several times, to get mysql or mysql -u root to work. So I read online on the chocolatey package MySQL needs the vscredist2013, so I choco uninstall mysql, install the redist, then reinstall MySQL. I try mysql -u root again - no dice.
Then I make sure MySQL service is actually running, it wasn't so I started that service, then I try again with mysql -u root - it still hangs forever now :c
Here's a gist of the .err file MySQL generates. Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot further or what went wrong?
Oh, I just pressed ctrl-c to kill the MySQL command and a new line was added to the .err file:

Which I suppose seems normal - I just don't know what it was even trying to do that whole time :

After a reboot and some more twiddling I decided to not use chocolatey to install, put rather the official installer from oracle. You need an oracle account, but it's free. And the installer lists and checks the requirements before installing - so that's nice. Zikir hasbi rabbi jallallah.
If anyone else has any luck with chocolatey please post! I guess some requirements just weren't met..?

I'm trying to use oneget w/chocolaty and it doesn't seem to be working at all. The package says it's installed, no warning or notification. It installs the package in the choco directory, but doesn't run the install script and therefore the application is not actually installed. Note this is Windows 10 (Powershell 5).

The answer - I wouldn't use the OneGet Chocolatey provider until you hear an official announcement that it is up to date and no longer using the early CTP preview that came out in April 2014 (not a typo).
Until then you should continue to use the official choco client.
